About Us
Our Mission and Vision; Faith, Family, Formation
Our goal as a dynamic Catholic parish is to energise our faith community...
- ...to build a strong spiritual foundation for our children;
- ...to minister to the elderly, sick and housebound;
- ...to enliven and enrich our parish liturgies;
- ...to reach out to inactive parishioners;
- ...to give and support each other in love.
A Brief History of the Capuchins in Erith
Founded in 1556 the Capuchins have been an integral part of community life here for almost 150 years. The Friars have served the communities here since 1867. The property where the current Friary now stands was started in October 1902 and opened the following year.
One corridor of the Friary, then two, served as a chapel in which Mass was said. The first 'Hall' was built between 1925 & 1928 and was used as a church for a time. In 1947, one wing of the Friary was turned into a chapel and was used until the opening of our present fine church in 1963.
St Fidelis Catholic Primary School
Our Parish is enriched and enlivened by its close association with St Fidelis Catholic Primary School next door.
The school has grown since its opening in November 1960 and now intakes 56 children into Nursery and 60 into Reception each year. Over 540 children now attend and the buildings have been extended in recent years to accommodate this important and growing need. Our children's education and spiritual growth is of paramount importance and the Parish, in recognition of this has financially contributed to the expansion of the school buildings.
The Angelus Centre
The Angelus Centre is the Parish centre for Our Lady of the Angels. The stylish and thoroughly modern building is becoming somewhat of a landmark within the parish.
As well as hosting events and clubs for the church, the centre is available to hire for all kinds of events such as; weddings, receptions, celebrations and parties. For more information visit the Angelus Centre website. (opens in a new window)
